Musical Arts – Hershey Handbell Ensemble

The next concert in the 2017-2018 Musical Arts Concert Series at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Neffsville, will be a handbell concert by the Hershey Handbell Ensemble, on Friday, December 1, 2017, at 7pm. Please note the day as it differs from the regular concert series schedule.

Formed in 2004, this auditioned community handbell ensemble is based in south central Pennsylvania.  The fifteen member group under the direction of Dr. Shawn Gingrich performs on seven octaves of Malmark Handbells, Handchimes, and other assorted instruments, including cello, oboe, flute, and percussion.  The concert’s selections will be seasonal Christmas pieces ranging from traditional to contemporary melodies with creative rhythms or other interesting twists.  “The First Noel” is a particularly rich and full rendering of the traditional tune while “Christmas Eve – Sarajevo 12/24” is adapted from the full orchestra version.

The ensemble was formed to fulfill the need for an auditioned community ensemble comprised of persons able to play advanced literature, interested in advancing the art of handbell ringing through education and performance, and interested in uniting people through this musical art.

The Ensemble will have their selection of popular CD recordings available for purchase at the concerts.  For more information, please visit www.hersheyhandbellensemble.org.

This concert is free and open to the public. A freewill offering is collected during intermission with a portion of the funds going to Lutheran Disaster Relief.
