The Finish Line

College Devotion, Easter 7

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

–2 Timothy 4:7, NRSV

No, just joking … you have not won the race, yet.  But you are close, aren’t you? With finals on your doorstep, you can see the finish line.  With last-stroke editing touches being added to semester ending papers, you can almost feel the euphoria that accompanies life beyond the finish line.  But this is not the time to slow down and limp to the tape, but to actualize all of your hard work this semester, and finish strong.  Know that you are all in the prayers of many back at St. Peter’s, as you bring this semester to a close.  Know that we pray you will be gifted with sound fruits from your labor.

All is well at St. Peter’s.  We finished our Easter spiritual gifts sermon series this morning.  Many of our members took spiritual gift inventories during our sermon time.  And next week we celebrate one of the great expressions of the “gift” of the Holy Spirit, in the Rite of Confirmation.  Pray for this year’s 9th grade class of young men and women, as they prepare for this important rite of passage in their faith lives.  As always, make choices that you and your loved ones will be proud of.

I bless you God, for the endurance you give me, and the focus you provide that may be used to finish the tasks before me.  May I reach the culmination of my semester.  Amen.
