Pastor’s Email College Devotion

The Week of Lent 4

March 6, 2016

And on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on                                       the seventh day from all the work that he had done.  (Genesis 2:2, NRSV)

Hey guys, what a joy to see a few of you this morning at church.  This is evidently a popular week for Spring Break on college campuses.  How do you use your time?  Do you use the week to catch up on work?  Do you take a break from work and just rest your mind so that you can return renewed and refreshed?   Do you do something unusual like a mission trip or a service project?  Do you enjoy something special like a ski trip with your family or a trip south to warmer weather?  Do you take a Sabbath?  For that is what Spring Break is … a Sabbath from your work … just like in the Genesis story.  We all need periods of rest from our work.  God builds that right into the fabric of the created world.  So who are you to defy the natural order of the world, right?  Take a break from your work … if not the entire break, at least for a few days.  Oh … and as always, make choices that you and your loved ones will be proud of.

God of creation, thank you for this magnificent world with which you have blessed me and everyone.  Teach me to enjoy it and celebrate it and honor and care for it.  Teach me to be your steward … of the world, and of my life.  Amen.
