Pastor’s Email College Devotion

The Week of Lent 5

March 13, 2016

When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22, NRSV)

This afternoon, I was privileged to attend an Eagle Scout award ceremony at church for one of our youth group members who is a Boy Scout.  It was a great celebration with a number of St. Peter’s members in attendance.  And, it was a joy to see the number of people who had been part of this young man’s journey to his Eagle Scout award – scout leaders, parents and siblings, extended family members, other scouts, school friends and supporters, and church friends.  It got me thinking about the people who have been part of my life at key moments of growth or transition.  What about you?  Think for a moment about those people who have shaped you as a person … supported you in your positive choices … taught you, mentored you, loved you, challenged you.  All of them are extensions of God’s love for you.  Why not pause tonight and offer a few words of thanks for them, and God’s choice to bless you with them.  As always, make choices that you and your loved ones will be proud of.

O Holy Spirit, you are the creator of relationships among your children.  You bind us together with your very essence.  Remind us always of the people to whom you have yoked us, and may we always see them as an expression of your love for us.  Amen.
