Pastor’s Email College Devotion

The Week of Advent 1

November 29, 2015

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  (2 Timothy 4:7, NRSV)

This is a Bible verse most often used to speak to the end of life.  But I offer it to you today in a penultimate usage, as you prepare for the final weeks of your semester.  Sometimes as we approach the end of a long journey, we are so anxious to finish that we cut corners in our preparation and execution.  Stay strong, and continue the work you have offered thus far this semester.  May God strengthen you with energy and focus, and may you find the courage to make the right choices for the use of your time.  I hope that your Thanksgiving mini-break, offered you a bit of down time, and will give you a shot of energy for these final couple of weeks.

We started the new Church Year this morning with our Advent 1 celebration.  Adam, our Director of Music had a delightful Advent refrain that our Jubilate Choir sang a few times in the service.  We had story sermons in both traditional and new Day worship.  And our Advent Wreath liturgy will open our worship for these four weeks of Advent.  I pray that the semester finishes well for you.  As always, make choices that you and your loved ones will be proud of.

Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come. By your merciful protection alert us to the threatening dangers of our sins, and redeem us for your life of justice, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
