Outdoor Family Service

This Sunday our outdoor service takes on a different flavor. We’ll have our first “family service” of the summer. These services are meant to be very friendly to families with young kids. We’ll have more action during worship, music that is easy to learn in the moment, and prayer and praise in language that will help young kids engage.

Of course, being the Director of Music, I want to talk a bit about the music we’ll sing! First, we’ll sing some repeat-after-me songs. A leader, yours truly, will sing a line of music and words. The congregation will repeat it. By going back and forth this way we will make our song together. We’ll also sing some call and response songs. I’ll teach a response which you all will sing after I sing a call. We’ll go back and forth again this way to make our song together.

While adults may not be used to learning new music this way (can’t we just read it, you may ask) this is a fantastic way to teach new music to kids. So, give yourself permission to really live into being a child of God this week and learn music the way children do. I’m really looking forward to sharing time in worship together and to sing some new songs together. Bring a chair. See you there!

As the Director of Music, I help the St. Peter’s community proclaim the gospel story and share the goodness of God through worship and music.
