Welcome to the next edition of Devotions@Home. As usual, the daily selection of readings is below. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday’s readings are a continuation of the themes from worship the previous Sunday. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday’s readings lead us into the coming Sunday.
This may be a new way to cultivate a habit of reading the Bible for a few minutes each day. Feel free to substitute in your own prayers (the Lord’s Prayer is an especially attractive option). We have also included a hymn that matches up with this coming Sunday’s themes for you to make music in your home. Blessings to you and your family.
Blessed Lord God, you have caused the holy scriptures to be written for the nourishment of your people. Grant that I/we may hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that, comforted by your promises, we may embrace and forever hold fast to the hope of eternal life, which you have given us in Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sunday, July 12
Sixth Sunday after Pentecost
God’s word is like the rain that waters the earth and brings forth vegetation. It is also like the sower who scatters seed indiscriminately. Our lives are like seeds sown in the earth. Even from what appears to be little, dormant, or dead, God promises a harvest. At the Lord’s table we are fed with the bread of life, that we may bear fruit in the world.
