St. Peter’s Response to Coronavirus

Sarah Teichmann

Following the advice of church leadership in our synod, church staff, and lay leadership within the congregation, St. Peter’s will be suspending all activities including all Sunday morning worship and education, Preschool, and gatherings at the church. This hiatus of large gatherings will be in effect beginning Saturday March 14 and continuing for two weeks, or until further notice.

The Decision-Making Process

The St. Peter’s staff gathered on Thursday morning, March 12, for a meeting to discern best practices in the midst of concerns regarding the Coronavirus. The leadership received advice from our Lancaster Conference Dean that we should consider suspending church activities. Though at this point no cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Lancaster County, we are aware of the growing concern to act proactively, as well as recommendations from public health officials and leaders to suspend large group gatherings. As leaders we want to protect the most vulnerable in our community, and also place measures that will prohibit the spread of infection.

Being Community

In the midst of creating self-imposed distance, as a church we are still called to our mission “building a community of faith by God’s grace.” At this time, community will look a little different, but God’s grace and presence still abounds. As a way to be community in the midst of Coronavirus, we are creating a landing page. This landing page includes updates and news, links to posted sermons and blog posts, resources for faith formation for you and members of your family, as well as a link to worship with us. We will continue to be church together.

Church Facility Use

Church staff will be working from home. All volunteers are requested to stay home. all activities held at the church are suspended at this time.

Further Updates and Discernment

The St. Peter’s staff and leadership will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and plan accordingly. You will find updates and relevant information by visiting our website stpeterslutheran.org

Rev. Sarah Teichmann

Pastor of Christian Formation

I love working in a staff where we are able to use each other’s strengths for the glory of God. I am energized by the lay leaders of the church and the creative ways they can extend the mission of Jesus to congregational members and our community.
