Updates from the National Youth Gathering

Our Youth are hard at work (and play!) at the ELCA National Youth Gathering in Houston, Texas. Thirteen kids from St. Peter’s and their fearless leaders joined 30,000 other Lutheran youth from around the country as they deepen their faith and serve others.

After arriving in Houston, our group checked in to their hotel and took in a baseball game before attending the first “Mass Gathering” at NRG Stadium. Each evening attendees take part in song and worship, as well as hear powerful messages from a diverse group of speakers.

The second day in Houston was Service Day for our group. Our service project took us to a neighborhood that was flooded by Hurricane Harvey. We were posting notices about assistance available to residents from the city. We were able to see that houses are still being repaired and some that have not even started. One man told us about how a street in front of his house was like a river and he was rescued by boat.

The third day of our stay in Houston was an amazing day of learning about how the church can make a difference in the world. Bonus: We got a lot of compliments on our Strawberry Fest t-shirts!

We still have a few more days, and we want to greatly thank you and all the people at St. Peter’s who have supported us in our journey. Keep us in your prayers, and be sure to ask us about this amazing life-changing experience when we get home.
