Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?
-Luke 24:32

Jesus Christ is the key that unlocks Scripture. That’s how it was on the road to Emmaus. The risen Lord, Jesus Christ, opened their eyes and their minds to understand the Word of God. He who is the Word made flesh caused them to see the Word with such clarity that their hearts burned within them. In what ways will Jesus appear to you this day, open the Word of God for you, and ask you to follow him?

This Week’s Focus In The Core Values Sermon Series

Following

Look at our four Gospel accounts of Jesus calling his disciples and you will encounter an invitation, “follow me.” When we read the Gospels we see a pattern of God’s work in our lives. Jesus appears and invites, Jesus reveals, and in faithful response we go, tell, and follow Jesus’ way. We follow by the ways we love God with all our mind, our heart, and our strength.

We follow by the ways we love our neighbors as ourselves. We love God and live into being a disciple of Christ by following, doing, and living in the ways of Jesus. This “following” is truly a way of life.
