Pentecost 24 Preview

“How Does a Saved Person Act?”

Then what becomes of boasting? It is excluded. By what law? By that of works? No, but by the law of faith.  For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by the law.      (Romans 3:27-28)

On this day we celebrate the heart of our faith: the gospel of Christ—the good news—that makes us free! We pray that the Holy Spirit would continue to unite the church today in its proclamation and witness to the world. In the waters of baptism we are made one body; we pray for the day that all Christians will also be one at the Lord’s table.

Preaching Statement

Salvation has come to this house.

Today we also kick off our Fall stewardship emphasis, as we look through congregational and individual eyes, at our calling to return to God part of our blessings of time, talent and wealth.

Home Devotional Questions

In a world of many different Christian denominations, is there still room in congregational life to celebrate Reformation Sunday?

Do your gifts of time, talent and wealth, arise from a place of gratitude or guilt?

How important is it to you that all Christians are one at the baptismal font and communion table?
