Pentecost 14 Preview

Where do you see the power of the Word of God at work?

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.”  When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. (Luke 13:12-13)

Today’s lessons speak to the power of God’s Word.  That Word is shown in Jesus’ curing the  crippled woman and his teaching on the true meaning of Sabbath.  The Word is also lifted up in Isaiah’s prophecy to the people of God regarding what Sabbath observance is in God’s eyes.

Our First Lesson for the day also reminds us:  If you call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, serving your own interests, or pursuing your own affairs; then you shall take delight in the Lord,  (Isaiah 58:13)

Preaching Question
