Pastor’s Email College Devotion

The Week of Epiphany 3

January 24, 2016

Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.

~~ Allen Saunders

Your lives are constantly interrupted, right?  A call from a friend to meet for coffee … a FB post that invites your response … a text from a friend with a question from your English class … an invite to a party you need to respond to … a message from mom.  Sometimes it is easy to just stick to your schedule.  Sometimes it is just as easy to blow off your schedule and jump on the invite.  How do you decide?  When are you called to follow your script, and when are you called to be spontaneous?  Jesus’ life followed a script of sorts.  He came to the earth to live, teach, heal and die for our sins.  In the midst of that plan he made time for those in need … those who reached out to him.  Might Jesus’ example, help you make those decisions between routine and spontaneity?  Try praying about it this week.

God of life and faith.  Speak to me in ways that I can hear, and through people that I trust, so that I can live my life as an example of what you wish for me.  Amen.
